The Sense of Urgency Technique
This technique works by the salesperson creating a false sense of urgency in their voice to get the office assistant to immediately pass the phone to a decision maker.
There are many ways to create this urgency:
- Speak with an urgent and commanding tone.
- “Sally (office assistant), this is John (salesperson) and I need to speak with Bill (decision maker) as soon as possible.”
- “Sally, this is John, I need to speak with Bill. We have an issue.”
- “Sally, this is John, Bill is needed.”
Remember, there is nothing urgent. If there was a real emergency the caller would be as descriptive as possible and not cryptic.
